In the midst of the fast pace of the world, Jerry found himself with a few minutes to spare. Being that it was time for dinner and a beautiful sunset in the making, Jerry decided to go to a little restaurant that he had heard about in the area that was supposed to have a very nice view of the westward mountains.

When he reached the restaurant he found that it was a bit fancy for his normal taste and style of such things.

Fancy places always made Jerry a bit nervous as one can rarely relax. Fortunately, Jerry was in the area on business and thus dressed in a manor which was acceptable for this class of society.

Upon entering the establishment, one could tell by the hostess' expression that she did not take Jerry to be the formal type of guest that the restaurant was accustomed. But with a polite smile on her face escorted him to an indoor corner table. The outdoor tables that Jerry would have liked to have been seated were, it seemed, reserved for the 'regular' guests.

Jerry would have really liked to be seated outside, as it was a day like few others, the weather was ideal with just enough of a chill in the air for all to seem right in the universe as the spectacular sunset fell over the mountains. Being able to watch the sunset from the corner of the room through the large windows of the restaurant would be acceptable as Jerry was tired and hungry. And in no mood to debate seating locations. Not that he ever would.

Jerry was always amazed at how people could ignore such a beautiful sunset. However, he was known to the caught up in his own little universe so much that he to forgot to notice the mystery of a sunset, or anything else, from time to time.

It also amazed him how no matter where he went the people and groups were always the same. As unique as they all thought they were only the faces an names changed. The actions were always the same. For instance, there was the group with one person trying to show off, the young man trying to impress is young date, the business man trying to convince the client that his is the " only " possible choice, and the client countering his 'volleys' as if a tennis match. The group of ladies helping each other trash some poor sole since one of them, at least in their minds, was treated improperly. The lost souls trying to make new friends, and of course the waiters an waitresses serving the customer's most moving like emotionless robots simply doing their assigned functions.

Then Jerry notice one of the waitresses, she was very attractive and at first glance looked as though she belonged and was very comfortable in the high society that she was serving. But anytime she went to get a customer anything, if at all possible, as not to delay response to a customer she positioned herself to either be able to look out the window or to be on the patio to 'sneak' a glance at the sun setting over the snow capped mountains.

The sun was setting over the mountains with an orangish-red glow, with just enough thin-lined clouds surrounding it and the mountains to be even more spectacular than most people could imagine. But the curiosity of the waitress that was trying so hard to watch the sunset peeked Jerry's curiosity; as he found himself splitting his attention between the two.

She was a person somewhat older than the other employees but by no means old. Jerry estimated that she was close to his age. From the looks of her muscles she was in very good physical condition from the muscles on her hands and fingers she was probably a mountain climber.

A climber that looked as though she would be much happier hiking all day through the forest just to get to one of the cliffs that was in the distance, than to be trapped in the fast paced high tech, laptop computer, cellular phone carrying, dungeon that she was currently in. Adding to the torture, it would be inappropriate to discuss such desires with anyone in that society, as many of them would look down upon such activities.

She was obviously a person that could function at many society levels. It was also obvious in her eyes that she longed to be in the mountains every time she looked out the window.

As Jerry finished his meal he gently raised his glass and gave her a silent toast.

"Good luck my friend", he thought, "maybe one day we will meet under conditions where we can both watch the sunset without society constantly interrupting. But for now all I can do is wish you all the best."

Jerry, was interrupted by his 'electronic leash', which most people would call a pager. Jerry stood, paid his tab and left to return to "his master". He was not sure if she saw the toast and knew she would not understand, without hearing his thoughts, even if she did. However, in his heart he wished the toast would someday come true.

Although, he knew in reality that it never would as long as society remains as it is.
