Just a note: This is a true story.
One of the things I use to love to do was to harassed people on the phone.
Let me qualify that a little, I only harassed the people that called me. Usually those annoying sells groups that just will not take NO for an answer.
For instance, one of the areas I lived had a very bad roach problem (the 6 legged kind). Thus, it was not unusual to have a pest control company call asking if one would like to have, "The Roaches in your home exterminated."
This was just to good to pass up ... especially with the opportunity to finally get rid of that annoying family member ... that just refused to leave ... so of course I answered with an enthusiastic, "Yes".
This was especially appealing since it would not be me the police would be chasing for exterminating that pest.
As the person calling started going through their 'pitch' of what all they can do and prices.
I interrupted them saying ... "That's very nice ... but I do not want all of roaches here exterminated ... I just want you to exterminate one roach."
There was a long pause as they finally muttered "you only want us to kill one roach?"
"Well yes ... I've taken care of the others but this one roach is extremely annoying and simply refuses to leave."
One could tell they were not sure if they should laugh or not ... as they said, "I think we can handle that. We have rates for several ..."
"Great!", I interrupted ... "Would you like it's description and name?"
"You ... you name the roaches?", they replied almost certain that I had lost my mind.
"Well ... no ... I did not name any of them, however, when they get as large as this one and tell you their name ... I tend to call them whatever they like."
"The roach told you its name?"
"Well of course", I replayed, "most of the ones I have seen that are over a foot or so long have the ability to communicate. Now the one I want you to get is ... "
All I heard was a click followed by a busy signal.
Hummmppp. How rude.
Oh well ... on the bright side of things ... I did not received any more calls from ANY exterminators ...
