I had this question asked to me a while back:

How do you really know the state of your own soul?

This was an interesting thought provoking question that so many people take for granted or ignore completely. For if we really think about it, how do we really know that our soul is right with God other than just faith that we are ok? Especially with so many of the blatantly incorrect and confusing teachings so many groups teach.

I think there are a many ways to know, but it all starts with being totally honest with oneself. No excuses, no explanations, just straight yes or no to everything. Did I / Am I doing what is right in the eyes of The Father, Son and Holy Ghost?

However a "gauge" I once heard someone suggest is to consider what you dream and fantasize about when you are just letting your mind wonder. Does your mind tend to dwell on physical pleasures/desires/lusts (that also includes money, material items etc.) or do your dreams and desires dwell more on what Our Creator really wanted us to be doing with our lives.

Or as an acquaintance of mine puts it:
Assume we can broadcast our dreams and fantasies on TV. If yours cannot be broadcast on the G rated stations you probably need to work on your relationship with God.
